Make Your Home Feel Like Germany Again
Â
Welcome to The German Connection!
The German Connection is a monthly membership for people in the US who miss authentic German food and want to confidently recreate it at home, without hunting for the “right” ingredients or guessing why it doesn’t taste like it did in Germany.
You just need someone to show you the way.
Â
Hallo! I’m Sophie Sadler, German expat, cookbook author and food blogger at dirndl kitchen. Recreating the taste of home in my American kitchen helped me with homesickness and made Germany part of my everyday life again. I’ll show you how to do the same.
When I moved to the U.S., I felt the distance from my family and culture deeply. Cooking and baking traditional German food became my lifeline. But it wasn’t always easy. I had to figure out how to recreate those tastes and textures using the ingredients, tools, and ovens I had here, without needing a suitcase full of hard-to-find imports.
Over the years, I cracked the code. And now I want to pass that on to you!
This membership is not just about recipes (though you’ll get plenty of those). It’s about helping you become your own hero. The one who recognizes what they miss, what they need, and takes steps to grow those skills and deepen that connection. And I am here to help you get there.
This is for you if Germany still feels like home in your heart.

You’ve lived in Germany (or were stationed there) and no restaurant in the US quite gets the flavors right
You have German roots and want to bring more authentic German food into your home
You’ve tried German recipes online but the ingredients are hard to find or the results are disappointing
You feel a little homesick when you think about the bakeries, Christmas markets, or Sunday dinners you loved in Germany
You want someone who understands both German flavors and American grocery stores to guide you step by step
I can’t wait to welcome you!
❤️ Sophie
I want in, Sophie!

I grew up in Germany's oldest city Trier and moved to Kansas City in 2009. For a long time, I felt so homesick! And no restaurant or recipe online tasted like the food I missed.
Recreating the exact flavors in my American kitchen changed everything: suddenly Germany was part of my everyday life again. I created this membership so you don’t have to struggle through that process alone.
